In Part 1 – Who Are We?, I shared how Spirit explained to me “who we are.” In typical fashion, their answer was not what I was asking for but it was still compelling. To recap the answer:

“You are a spiritual being living a physical life and your only separation between the two are your perceptions of each – that one is apart and different from the other. Each serves the other! To create change, you simply live “The Truth” and “your truth.”

In Part 1, I addressed how we can understand “our truth.” This week we look at “The Truth”. The best way I can describe “The Truth” is by calling it spiritual laws. I also like to call them Spiritual Principles. The word “law” tends to feel harsh and unforgiving, but either term is accurate.

If we look at the definition of who we are, we understand we are physical beings, and as such, we are bound to physical principles. These include principles and laws like gravity, force, friction, and other scientific truths. Our physical self is tied to these principles because we are physical beings in a physical world. BUT……

Since we are also spiritual beings, we are also bound to spiritual principles/laws. These are called “The Truth.” Like the physical laws and principles we must abide by, there are also spiritual laws and principles we must abide by. “The Truth” is nothing more than coming to an understanding of these deeper principles, and understanding how they fit for us and work in conjunction with “our truth.”

Let me give you an example!

Choice is a spiritual principle – it is “A Truth!” It was also the first spiritual principle I remember being taught as I was going through my emergence. We all have the power of Choice! As spiritual, sentient beings we have the ability to make decisions – or not. Oftentimes we avoid making a choice, but this too is a choice. In other words, choice is as inescapable as gravity. When we make choices, certain given outcomes will result. Just as when we do not make a choice, certain given outcomes will result.

These “Truths” apply to all people, whether we believe in them or not, and whether we’re aware of them or not. We are no less bound by spiritual principles than we are physical principles, therefore, the better we understand each of these, the more empowered we become: physically and spiritually.

If we take the principle of Choice one step further, and we work to integrate “The Truth” with “our truth,” then how do these two things come together to help us know who we are?

Perhaps your truth is that you were born into a life where opportunity and advantage were not readily available to you. This may be a truth of your current situation, however, the larger Truth is that you still have a Choice on how you can handle this part of your life. Do you choose to accept that fate or overcome it? Do you choose to feel a victim or to find opportunity? Do you choose to feel defeated and hopeless or inspired to rise above it? Do you choose to blame your parents or society or to take control?

These are all Choices you get to make, and with them comes “The Truth” – that you will live exactly what you choose! The Choice is up to you! And you will live “The Truth” of your choices in conjunction with your current “truth” of who you are.

If we take this wisdom as a whole, we need to stop seeing the physical and spiritual as two different things. They are not. We Are first and foremost spiritual beings. It is merely that we are here and now in this physical world and we are here for a reason, but the physical and spiritual are two sides of a coin – each supporting the other.

If, however, we want to find out more about exactly who we are, then we need to start walking in our truth (the physical aspect of us) in conjunction with The Truth (the spiritual aspect of us). When we combine these two we begin to unwrap and live our unique spiritual design!
